A Day in the Life of a Real Estate Investment Fund Manager and Part-Time Endodontist

Welcome to a day in the life! I’m Dr Janatha Withanachchi, with the “Walk of Wealth.” Today, I’m shedding light on what it’s like wearing two distinct hats in my career—real estate investment fund manager and part-time endodontist. With a prominent focus on my real estate investment hat.

The Journey of Juggling Two Worlds

My days are a harmonious blend of financial management, real estate dealings, and serving in the field of dentistry. Often, people ask, “What does a fund manager do?” Today, I’ll give you a glimpse into a typical day in my shoes.

Embracing a Balanced Start

The day kicks off at 7:00 a.m. with a mindful five-minute meditation before diving into the morning routine. While my wife manages the morning hustle, I assist in prepping our kids for school—a newfound luxury in my schedule. Post-school drop-off, I explore the Peloton, something that was initially my wife’s domain, finding it surprisingly invigorating.

The Intermittent Fasting Ritual

I adhere to an intermittent fasting schedule, abstaining from breakfast until noon. A morning workout session and a revitalizing shower prepare me for the day’s ventures.

Engaging with Investors

10:00 a.m. marks the start of my real estate commitments, beginning with a call with a dentist seeking to pivot from practice equity to passive income. This call is followed by another at 10:30 with a doctor exploring wealth diversification beyond their thriving dental practice.

Delving into Investment Reports

By 11:15, I immerse myself in reviewing Q3 reports from previous deals. This meticulous scrutiny is pivotal in ensuring our investments are on track, involving correspondence with sponsors and detailed analysis.

Collaborative Real Estate Strategy

The focal point of Fridays is our fund managers meeting from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. This congregation of 35 seasoned real estate fund managers is a knowledge-sharing hub where we discuss industry insights, scrutinize potential deals, and collectively evaluate investment opportunities—think “Shark Tank” but with a larger panel.

Midday Respite and Continuing the Hustle

Post-meeting, a brief break allows for a late lunch before diving back into work. From 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., I record a webinar series aimed at educating fellow dentists on property analysis and real estate investment strategies.

Nurturing Investments and Family

The day’s finale involves a call regarding ongoing investments, ensuring alignment with envisioned business plans. By 4:40 p.m., work concludes, making way for family time—a bike ride with my children and dinner shared with my wife and kids.

The Essence of Balance

For those driven by success, it’s crucial to strike a balance. While pursuing our goals vigorously, it’s equally essential to nurture relationships, health, and personal well-being.

Conclusion

A fulfilling day encapsulates more than professional victories—it intertwines personal growth, family bonding, and holistic well-being. If this resonates with you, share this journey and stay tuned for more wealth-building insights.

Remember, success is not solely measured by achievements in one domain but by the harmony found in balancing multiple facets of life.

About

Dr Janatha Withanachchi received his DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) at Howard University College of Dentistry with distinction and completed his post-doctoral training in Endodontics at New York University.

Soon after graduating he immediately began investing in single family houses (SFH). After several investment SFHs he realized that this was not the best way to create meaningful cash flows; nor to accumulate wealth. This led him to commercial real estate which he soon found was a better way at building significant cash flows and creating wealth.

By identifying emerging markets, partnering with only the best sponsors in the country he began acquiring primely located, value-add apartment buildings through apartment building syndication. He is a self-made millionaire and has created substantial passive income through leveraged real estate investments. He has syndicated over $50+ Million dollars worth of real estate and is the Vice President of Business Operations in a top tier vertically integrated real estate company that owns and manages 2000+ apartment units valued over $400 Million dollars.

He has jump-started many of his family, friends and fellow doctor associates on a predictable path to financial freedom.
